Queen of Sheba - White Silk Scarf by Natalie B Coleman
Queen of Sheba - White Silk Scarf by Natalie B Coleman
The NatalieBColeman Dubin-based label has created this limited edition collection: 3 styles of silk scarves, only 10 of each exist. These have been commissioned by the National gallery of Ireland to celebrate the original trailblazer, rule breaker, Lavinia Fontana.
Digitally printed & inspired by The Visit of the Queen of Sheba to King Solomon, we have taken amulets from the painting & re imagined them into rebellious colourful emblems. Ero's, a symbol of love, hidden in the crown, is depicted as Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt & Moon. Embroidered patterns, precious stones, & jewels are taken from the luxurious fabrics & along with bejeweled heads & paws that were used as charms and fashion accessories are refashioned into scarf borders that have a beautiful hand rolled finish. ornate clocks, hunting dogs, and historical fertility symbols are subverted into punk representations of femininity and power.
Natalie B Coleman is a native of the Republic of Ireland. By 2007, she was studying at Central Saint Martins in London for her MA Fashion in Womens wear under the tutelage of the late Louise Wilson.
In 2011, Natalie set up a studio and launched her eponymous label. Her collections play on feminine silhouettes with humorous and sometimes subversive illustrative prints and motifs.
